Rat Control Tips

If you’re dealing with a rat problem, there are a few things you can do to control the situation. Here are eight tips:

  • Remove food sources. If rats have easy access to food, they’re more likely to stick around. So, clean up any spills or crumbs, and store food in airtight containers.
  • Fix any holes or cracks in your home’s foundation or exterior walls. These provide access points for rats to enter your home.
  • Keep your yard clean and free of debris. This will make it less attractive to rats looking for shelter.
  • Get rid of standing water on your property. Rats need water to survive, so eliminating sources of water will help discourage them from sticking around.
  • Trim back any tree branches or shrubs that touch your house. These can provide rats with a way to climb onto your roof or into your attic.
  • Use rat-resistant trash cans and seal up garbage bags tightly. If rats can’t access food waste, they’re less likely to hang around your property.
  • Set traps baited with food to catch rats that are already on your property. Be sure to check the traps regularly and dispose of any caught rats properly.
  • Call a professional exterminator if you’re not able to get the situation under control on your own. They will be able to identify any other potential entry points for rats and help you eliminate the problem for good.
